Resolution
of Support to the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea
International Communist Seminar, Brussels, 2 – 4 May 2000
The
summit between the North and the South of Korea from 12 to 14 June 2000 will be
a historical event. Ever since the division of Korea, imposed by US imperialism
upon liberation in 1945, the Northern part has advanced hundreds of proposals
for dialogue and reunification to the South Korean government. Remarkably, the
joint communiqué of 10 April 2000 refers to the “three principles of
national reunification established by the joint North-South declaration of 4
July (1972)”, which had been advanced by president Kim Il Sung :
independence, the peaceful road and the great national union.
This meeting would above all allow to reduce the state of confrontation
on the peninsula and to hasten the retreat of the US troops based in the South.
That is why it merits the attention and the support of all progressive and
peace-loving people in the world.
The quest for peace on the Korean peninsula does not go together with the military maneuvers, the threats and belligerent declarations of the US. It is particularly necessary that the joint US-South Korean war exercises against the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea be halted, such as the “Eagle” maneuvers that are planned for June. The smear campaigns in the media that seek to isolate the DPRK and to stress the embargo likewise have to be stopped.
Notwithstanding
the imperialist economic blockade and the natural catastrophes, the DPRK
courageously struggles to surmount these difficulties. For more than 50 years
and under the leadership of the Workers’ Party of Korea, the DPRK has remained
faithful to socialism and has been able to safeguard its independence and
sovereignty.
We
wish to testify of our solidarity with the Workers’ Party of Korea, led by
Comrade Kim Jong Il. We assure the Workers’ Party of Korea of our support in
its struggle to safeguard socialism and realize the independent and peaceful
reunification of Korea.
